Volunteer Services
Thank you for your interest in the Volunteer Services Program of East El Paso Physicians Medical Center. We are excited that you are willing to dedicate your time to help make our hospital a medical facility our community can be proud of. There are four steps to becoming a Volunteer and this usually takes places over a two-week period.
- Fill out the application and a Medical History
- The Initial Interview/Drug Screen/Background Check
- Orientation/ TB test
- Receiving your Volunteer assignment/jacket/name badge
In order to be a volunteer, you must submit to a drug screen and background check. After this information has been returned to this office, you will be contacted and scheduled to come in to complete the orientation process. This consists of an open book test on different information concerning the hospital and procedures. There is a multiple choice test that follows. After the orientation presentation and test you are ready to start your TB tests.

TB tests are given on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday between the hours of 7:00 am and noon at the hospital. You must wait 72 hours to have your test read. You will need to return to the hospital to have this done. If given on Monday you must return on Wednesday or if given on Wednesday you would return Friday. You may not start your assignment until you have had your TB test read. If you have had a TB test recently; please provide your shot record to the Infection Control Nurse for verification. The Infection Control Nurse will keep your Medical History on file.
Next you will receive your Volunteer jacket for a small fee of $10.00, your assignment and name badge. Our Volunteer dress code is; khaki slacks or pants, a white shirt with a collar and your jacket. You will want to wear comfortable shoes such as tennis shoes. Shoes must be closed toes.
Your name badge will identify you as a volunteer and will also entitle you to receive a complimentary meal in the cafeteria during the lunch hour. If you are volunteering in the afternoon, you may come in early for your complimentary meal.
We ask that you volunteer four (4) hours a week and make at least a six month commitment.
If you would like to work more hours, we would be delighted. It is our goal to make your volunteer service an enriching experience. We want you to take pride in being a volunteer at East El Paso Physicians Medical Center.
Sincerely,
Marilyn Sedgwick, Volunteer Director
